What Sets Carolina Home Access Apart

Every home modification company on Google says the same three things: licensed, insured, trusted. So what actually separates the company that shows up at your door from the one that doesn’t?

We’re Carolina Home Access, and we’d rather show you than tell you.

We Started Because of One Mom, Not a Business Plan

Carolina Home Access exists because our founder, Jon, was helping his own mom move to Charlotte. She’s independent, but he couldn’t find many homes actually built for the way she’d need to live as she got older. That gap kept showing up everywhere he looked: people coming home from the hospital or a rehab stay to a house that wasn’t safe to return to, and almost nobody specializing in fixing that.

So he built the company he wished existed, one focused entirely on helping people stay in the home they already love, safely, instead of pushing them toward a move they never asked for.

That story shapes how we work. We’re not a general contractor who added a ramp to the service list somewhere along the way. Home access is the whole business, not a side offering.

Certifications That Actually Mean Something

Anyone can install a grab bar. Not everyone installs it into the wood blocking behind the drywall where it can actually hold someone’s weight.

Our team includes a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) and a Certified Environmental Access Consultant (CEAC), credentials that require real training in how homes need to change as bodies do. We’re also licensed and insured, and members of both the Home Builders Association of Charlotte and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

None of that is decoration. It’s the difference between a ramp built to the 1:12 slope standard the U.S. Access Board recommends and one that’s just steep enough to be dangerous in the rain.

We Solve the Problem, Not Sell the Product

We’re not locked into one product line, which means we’re not trying to make your bathroom fit our inventory. We listen first, figure out what actually solves the problem, and recommend that, even when it isn’t the most expensive option on the list.

Two other things guide every project:

  • We do it right the first time. You shouldn’t have to call anyone back to redo the work.
  • Our care doesn’t end when the install does. We service what we install and stay reachable as your needs change.

If something isn’t right, we make it right. That’s not a slogan, it’s the standard we hold ourselves to on every job, and it’s why we stand behind the work after the crew leaves.

A Process Built Around One Complete Estimate, No Surprises

Most home modification quotes online are guesses, because no calculator has actually seen your entryway, your bathroom, or your stairs. Ours starts with a real conversation and ends with one number you can trust.

  1. Discovery call. No forms, no pressure, just a conversation about your situation and goals.
  2. In-home assessment. We walk your home with you and see exactly where things need to change.
  3. Your custom plan. A clear, prioritized plan with transparent pricing, no surprises, no upsells.
  4. Professional installation. Most projects finish in a single visit.
  5. Follow-up visit. We come back to make sure everything works the way it should.

We serve Charlotte and the surrounding counties, including Mecklenburg, Union, Gaston, Cabarrus, York (SC), and Lancaster (SC).

What Other People in the Industry Say About Us

Homeowner reviews are one thing. What the people who work in senior care say about us is another.

Safe Haven Senior Advisors, a Charlotte-area senior living advisory firm with decades of combined experience helping families find the right placement, is one of the groups that regularly points families our way when staying home is the better fit. That kind of referral means something, since Safe Haven has no reason to recommend us unless our work actually holds up over time.

Our own reviews echo the same theme. Families tell us the process felt clear, the team walked them through every option honestly, and the finished work made a real difference in how safely their parent moved through the house day to day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Carolina Home Access licensed and insured?

Yes. Our installers are licensed and insured, and our team includes CAPS and CEAC-certified specialists.

Do you only do bathrooms, or the whole home?

How is Carolina Home Access different from a general contractor?

A general contractor might add a ramp to a broader remodel. Home accessibility is our entire business, so every recommendation, material choice, and install is built around one question: does this make the home safer and easier to live in?

What areas do you serve?

Charlotte and the surrounding counties: Mecklenburg, Union, Gaston, Cabarrus, York (SC), and Lancaster (SC).

Does financing help pay for a project?

We partner with Acorn Finance so homeowners can explore payment options with a soft credit check before committing. Veterans may also have options through VA Prosthetics, and some projects may qualify for a tax deduction; we’d recommend confirming specifics with the IRS or a tax professional.

Ready to See the Difference in Your Own Home?

The best way to understand what sets us apart is to have us walk your home with you. We’ll show you what a plan built around your house, not our inventory, actually looks like.
